Fahrenheit 451 essay

   In Fahrenheit   451 the author shows us how the characters change despite the dystopian setting the book take place in, the only character that actually changes is Montang but still we get to see him throughout his journey. Everyone in the book is characterized by society. Everyone is a zombie like person who has a non-existent attention  span and are mindless. We get to see Montana change from that zombie like person to an enlightened individual who is willing to become a criminal and defy the society he lives In just to be different and be happy.
   When we first meet Montang he is coming from work on a moving sidewalk, not thinking about anything and just staring mindlessly to what’s in front of him. This is the first example that we see on how people are so unaware of anything in this book. We find out that Montang is a firefighter but we later find out that in this dystopian future “firefighters” don’t actually fight fires but rather start them and burn down books. Back to Montang and him sliding his way home, he encounter a girl named clarisee. And this girl is different, she isn’t like everyone else she’s “enlightened” to what the world can offer and sparks a conversation with Montang. Montana is surprised an annoyed because in this future no one really talks to each other and no one asks these “deep” questions about life like clairese is asking. When clairese leaves Montang is relived but the girl leaves a lasting impression on montang and this encounter is the first example we see of Montang changing. In this horrible future books are outlawed and burned by these firefighters (montangs job) but we know that clarisee and Faber an old man read books and that’s why they are ”different” that’s why they ask questions.
   After meeting clarisee Montang starts to question everything just like her. While at first he was mindless and didn’t have meaningful conversations with anyone, even his own wife. Montang eventually starts enjoying the company of clarisee and realizes that he enjoys the meaningful conversations that they share with each other. When clarise dies we know that it’s because of her possession of books, the author Disney tell us that but we know that’s what happens or at least that’s what I believe happened. This maníes Montang want to read books as he no longer has the company of clarisee to “enlighten” himself he looks for books and while books are rather extinct in this setting his job as a “firefighter” gives him an opportunity to snatch a book in one of his missions. Once he steals this book Montang becomes enlightened and starts to question his job, the society they live in, and his relationship with everyone. Montana realises that all of the things mention before are fake or wrong and begins to meetup with Faber, another enlightened person who becomes a story of mentor to montang. All of these actions shows us how much montang has grown and developed as a character as he goes from a mindless zombie to a thinking, questioning human being.
   Eventually this hoarding of books and knowledge makes Montana a criminal and he runs away seeking a group of people who are like him and Faber. Faber mentioned that outside the city there are a group of people who are like them and Montana’s wishes to meet them to be happy and live a meaningful life. This once agin shows us development in characterization as no gang goes from serving the law as a ”firefighter” to being a criminal in hope to being able to escape this woolens of fake and unhappiness. At the end of the book Montana meets up with the group. We get to see Montang be happy.
   The development that Montana undergoes despite the dystopian setting that he is placed in is very inspirational and I believe the author of the book, Ray bradberry. Shows us his thoughts and views through montang. The importance of doing what you think is right and what will make you happy and willing to to anything to stick to your guns and do what you believe is right even if it makes u become a criminal or outcast for society

AS WE GROW, WE CHANGE

One dynamic character from farenheit 451 is obviously montang, the main character. He hose from becoming a mindless sheep who follows the laws of a terrible future to being someone who  is willing to break the laws and become a criminal just to be able to read a book and gain some knowledge. I think that when a character steps out of his bubble and dose something that he usually doesn’t do and changes for the better, that’s what makes a dynamic character. Another example of Montang becoming a dynamic character is when he realizes that he likes the company of people and likes having meaningful conversations instead of just boring no talking and meaningless conversations like when he first meets the girl (I fergot her name) and later when she dies Montana misses her and her wild questioning conversations

Journal topic 4/20

My personality is definitely not the same as when I was a kid. I’ve obviously matured and my views have changed a lot. I’m still pretty shy and quiet but I have changed drastically throughout the years. One of the things that have changed is how I look at the world, I think everyone changes when it comes to this it’s just what happens. Actually I don’t remember how I was as a kid but I’m pretty sure that I’ve changed theirs no way that I haven’t.

A CASE FOR WAR?

In the book I think America is the only country that is in the “dystopian” setting and the other countries are preparing to “save” the people of America. This is how I view it. I think ideals and religion is what motivates people to do certain things. In the book when the other nations start bombing America in there eyes they are doing good and are trying to save the people from the dystopian life style.however in the eyes of the American people (in the book) they are bad, well even though they are at war they don’t seem to understand and behave as if everything is ok. Religion and ideals is what drives people to commit extreme decisions

FAILING TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL

Faber and Montana want to escape to a group of people who are different than the rest of society. People who read and are intelligent. They have planes things out but it’s not extremely plan out. The plan is going to fail and I have a gut wrenching feeling that faber is going to get burned along with his house I just feel it

April 7th journal

The most embarrassing thing I’ve done during quarantine is going out for groceries with my mom. I don’t mean that in a bad way, I haven’t had a hair cut in about 4 months and I have really curly hair so i felt embarrassed walking around with my hair cut. I wasn’t embarrassed being with my mom, though I’m sure she was embarrassed of being seen with me. She said I looked like a mushroom head

SOMETIMES YOU NEED A PROFESSOR

Montang wants to get in contact with Faber because he knows more than Montang. Montaña views Faber as a wise wizard with knowledge and in a way that’s true. In this world where no one reads and everyone is being like zombies. Faber with his knowledge that he attained from books is a light and Montana is a moth seeking to gain that knowledge because he got a small taste of it

April 6th journal

I usually don’t understand what I read in Spanish. I have to double up my focus in order to understand anything that I read. If I don’t do that I will simply not understand a word that I read. I remember when my friend who sits beside me in Spanish class helped me understand an article we were reading. I re-read it over and over again but I never reall understood it until he helped me

IS IT JUST ABOUT THE JOB?

I think Montana now hates his job. He feels “sick” because he realizes that he’s hurting everyone by doing his job. His job who he had  believed was just and good, it’s actually h ur ting everyone/ humanity. Burning books is iba bad thing I think even a kid knows that. Burning books erases years of knowledge and wisdom from previos generations, not only that but when people burn books they usually do it because they want to hide something to prevent a revolt or threat their power.

THIS CAT IS CURIOUS

I don’t think culture determines the curiosity of someone. Some people are just born more curious than others. I think that we all are curious but some are more curious than others

Journal April 3rd

My parents influence me. Not wanting to disappoint my parents is what influences me to behave good and get good grades. I don’t think I’m easily influenced by other people that are not not my family. I think Montang is so easily influenced because he is like a child. He doesn't know any better and this is because of the dystopian world that he lives in. He was raised to be a zombie and he’s a zombie. So now that he’s breaking out he’s starting to experience new stuff he’s amazed and is easily influenced by people

My inner happiness

I think Beatty is right to some degree. Food, entertainment etc dose make me happy but I think that being happy mentality is what really makes you “happy”. I don’t know how to explain it but I guess I’ll try. If you have a broken leg and arm but your happy inside because you broke those limbs by saving a baby from falling off a building and now your famous, you feel good mentally and I guess physically. You might be hurt but u feel good. But if u just broke your legs by falling off a building and people think you clumsy you can eat all the food in the world, watch all the tv in the world and still be sad. I do agree with Beatty though

ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM IN AMERICA

I think that no one really hates smart people. We already do celebrate the accomplishments of smart people maby not like football players, but the scholarships, collage opportunity’s, and job opportunity’s that those smart people get is more than enough in my opinion. They might not receive “fame” at school but they definitely will get rewarded for their intellectualism after school. But the reason as to why I think schools don’t make it a big deal as compared to sports is because it dosnt attract attention. When two rival football teams play against each other the whole city/town knows about it and even news Channels cover the game. I think that’s why schools don’t really teach the smart kids the same as athletes

United we stand?

I think independence is always a good thing. Not needing to rely  on anyone for anything is good. You get to watch other suffer because they are so dependent on the help of others while you are good and getting work done. I guess it’s nice to get help but I thing that if u can do something alone with no real consequences for doing it alone you should stick to yourself

April 1st journal

I don’t really like Fahrenheit 451 it was an ok book but I definitely don’t think I would go out of my way to recommend it. I enjoyed the great gatsby much more than I enjoyed Fahrenheit 451. But there were some elements/moments that I did like from 451. In the commercial I would want to show the setting, the dystopian future where people burn books. It would be dark and gloomy because that’s what I imagined the book looks like. Dark cloudy and sad. That is until montang “breaks” out of that zombie like thing and starts reading books and eventually becomes a criminal. I would also highlight the roles of firefighters in here and how everyone feels empty and depressed. Despite all this I would also show the ressistance the group of people who read books and break the laws of the dystopian future

March 31 journal

  I haven’t been writing the journals on here, I’ve been writing them in paper thinking that I’ll just turn them into dr Preston when we get back to school. Now things are starting to look like we might not go back to school anytime soon, so im going to start posting so that I don’t fail the class. I’ve finished reading Fahrenheit 451. Since there isn’t much to do and I actually like reading I’ve finished the book and I thought it was ok nothing special, I don’t see why it’s an American classic or anything. I do think it’s pretty cool how the author of the book was trying to date dr prestons grandmother though.

Gatsby essay

The notion of the American dream figures prominently in this story.  How do readers define the American dream? Moreover, is pursuing the American dream necessarily a good thing?

    In the great gatsby the American dream is extremely prominent throughout the story, through the heartbreaks, betrayal  and eventually death of gatsby.the book shows us how the characters have achieved the American dream but are missing one important thing that another person has, this will create tension and conflict between the characters in the book. The American dream is having wealth, a beautiful wife, children  and happiness In my eyes that is the American dream and the book shows us it’s version of it. The american dream can be a good thing and a nice goal to strive for however in this book the chasing of the American dream end up in tragedy.
    The main character Nick is trying to achieve the American dream by going to New York and attempting to achieve a new life after his military service. He hears many things about gatsby, a rich good looking guy who everyone seems to admire. Already we can see that gatsby has achieved the American dream by having extreme wealth, a nice house etc. However gatsby is missing one thing in his life and that’s love. Our main character dosnt find this out, not until he actually meets gatsby. We soon find out that gataby is madly in love with a woman named daisy but she’s married with another man named Tom. Gatsby could care less about his wealth, house and luxurious lifestyle. All he wants is daisy and we soon find out that gatsby is so blind that he would do anything for daisy. An example of this is when daisy kills someone by running her over, gatsby takes the blame and is willing to go to jail just so daisy can be ok and unharmed. Daisy in return hose back to her husband and dosnt even thank gatsby. Gatsby clearly knows/sees this but still decides to protect her. This shows us how gatsby chasing the American dream is harmful and enthrall gets him killed later on in the book
   Another example of the American dream being bad is through the betrayal in every event in this book. Everyone we meet is arguably chasing the American dream. They all want wealth, nice houses, status etc. Gatsby is admired by all and in the eyes of everyone else he has already achieved the American dream, so everyone else uses him to achieve their own goals. Once things turn sour they simply abandon gatsby, since he no longer can help them in their own goals, the only exception in this is nick. When gatsby dies no one shows up, none of gatsby so called ‘friends’ shows up. No one except nick he shows up. This is not the only example of betrayal in the book. Another example is when Tom frames gatsby as the killer of the woman who daisy killed by running her over. Tom did this to get rid of gatsby. Tom was jealous of gatsby and saught to get rim of him for attempting to steal daisy from him. Tom already has wealth, daughters and a nice house and he has a mistress yet he still wants daisy. This shows of the crab like mentality of the people chasing the American dream, ‘if I can’t have it no one can’. Once again showing us how the American dream is not a good thing.
    The death of gatsby is the final example of how achieving the American dream is bad. Gatsby spent his whole life trying to achieve the dream, and he almost did all he needed was daisy, but he was killed. Shot in the back of the head. All the hard work and dedication went away, all the years of trying to achieve the dream went down the drain. This is an example of how the chasing of the American dream is hard work and sometimes you can work hard and still not achieve it.
    The American is a good thing but there will be other people who undoubtedly will get jealous of you get too ahead and sometimes will try to stop you. The pursuit of the American dream is a good thing, however as the book showed us. If you try to take something from someone to achieve the dream it’s gona blow up in your face.

Chapter 9

After Gatsby's death, Nick  calls Daisy but she never answered the phone. Nick just wanted to let her know about Gatsby's death. They had gone and left no address or information or when the would-be back. When Tom and Daisy were leaving  Mr. Wilson came to the door with a revolver in his pocket.
Tom told Wilson that the person who owned the car was Gatsby.
Nick sees want thing real about Gatsby, he saw all that loved she had for daisy . And that’s why nick actually liked gatsby 

Chapter 8

In this chapter gatsby tells nick the whole story between him and daisy. He tells nick that he and daisy were together but once gatsby went to fight in the war daisy pretty much replaced him with Tom. We also find out that everyone is extremely fake in this story no one actually cares about gatby other than nick. Everyone just used gay by and his party’s for their own gain. Daisy ran over toms lover and her husband is devastated. He starts questioning who did it and eventually find out that his wife cheated on him. I think that gatsby is a good guy. I don’t understand why he’s a “great” guy but he’s ok. I feel bad for him though 100%, I hate how he just keeps chasing daisy
